14mm vs 16mm pickleball paddles

Many paddles are sold in two core thicknesses, usually 14mm and 16mm. Same shape, same face, same brand; the only change is how thick the core is. It is one of the few spec choices you can feel on the first hit.

What the extra 2mm does

If you win points at the kitchen with soft shots, or you are still learning to reset, 16mm is the safer choice. If you already control the ball and want more pace, try 14mm.
